Planning To Plant A Lot Of Crops? 2 Tips To Keep Them Healthy

Posted on

It takes a lot of work to plant and take care of crops on a farm. The last thing you want is to have your crops to die or not grow well for you. Fortunately, there are many things you can do to keep the crops healthy after you plant them, two of which are listed below.

Use Laser Grading

One option you have is using laser grading. You need to hire a company to provide this service to you. Laser grading is part of an irrigation system used for crops. The system creates flat fields for you before you plant the crops which is important. Having flat land keeps crops level and allows water to be distributed evenly to each plant.

This is done by using a device that emits a laser. The field is scanned that then generates an elevation map of the crop field. This map data converts into electrical signals. These signals are sent from a transmitter to a control box and receiving unit on the field grader. When the process is finished your entire crop field will be graded and ready for you to plant your crops. The control box moves up and down as it goes over the crop field to ensure everything is level when the process is finished.

Install Irrigation System

Once the land is level you should install an irrigation system. This is a much easier way to keep your crops watered. There are many types of irrigation systems you can install for your farm. One type is surface irrigation which works much like a sprinkler system to distribute water over the crop field. There is localized irrigation that uses low pressure. A pipe network is installed and applied for each plant. Water is then distributed through the pipes to the individual plants.

Drip irrigation is another option. With this hosing is installed under the soil. The hosing is perforated so small drops of water are delivered at a time on a constant basis. With this, the water goes directly to the roots of each plant so you will not have to worry about runoff or water evaporation. You can set drip irrigation systems on a timer to start up and turn off at a certain time each day. This will save you a lot of time and ensure your crops are watered each day even when you are not home.
